Office Relationships & Communication
Hosted in partnership with BloomRDH
Real-world mentorship for dental professionals navigating what comes after graduation.
Course Description
Knowing what to say is one thing. Knowing how to say it in a busy dental office is another.
From communicating concerns to a dentist, to explaining treatment to a hesitant patient, to navigating a coworker who makes your day harder, strong communication skills can completely change your experience in practice.
This interactive mentorship session explores how to communicate with confidence while still being collaborative, professional, and true to yourself. We’ll talk through real-world situations involving dentists, patients, coworkers, boundaries, feedback, and difficult conversations—especially the moments that can feel intimidating when you’re newer to the profession.
Whether you’re just beginning your career or working on strengthening your professional presence, you’ll leave with practical language and strategies to help you communicate more clearly, build stronger relationships, and handle challenging situations with greater confidence.
What to Expect
This is an interactive mentorship session, not a traditional lecture. Cameras will be on and participation is encouraged.
Bring a communication challenge you’ve faced—or one you’re worried about facing. Whether it involves a patient, dentist, office manager, or coworker, this is your opportunity to talk through real-life scenarios and learn how to approach them professionally and confidently.
Can’t attend every session? No problem. You’re welcome to join any session that works for you, and the mentorship series repeats regularly, so you’ll have another opportunity to catch topics you miss.
What You’ll Walk Away With
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Apply communication strategies that strengthen collaboration with dentists, clinical teammates, and other members of the dental team.
- Use clear, confident language to build patient trust, explain recommendations, and navigate patient concerns.
- Respond professionally to difficult coworker dynamics, feedback, and workplace conflict.
- Establish healthy communication boundaries that support mutual respect and effective teamwork.
About the Mentorship Program
Dental hygiene school prepares you to become a clinician—but some of the hardest parts of entering the profession can only be learned through experience.
Created for students, recent graduates, and dental professionals looking for additional support, this live mentorship series tackles the real-world situations that aren’t always covered in school. Led by Kim Augustus, RDH and founder of BloomRDH, sessions explore topics like workplace communication, confidence, interviews, career decisions, boundaries, difficult situations, and navigating your first years in practice.
Think of it as the guidance you wish came with your diploma.
Meet Your Mentor
Kimberly Augustus, RDH, is the founder of BloomRDH and a dental hygienist with more than a decade of clinical experience and nearly 10 years in dental education.
After recognizing how many new hygienists leave school clinically prepared but still feel uncertain navigating the realities of professional life, Kim created BloomRDH to help bridge that gap. Through mentorship, education, and honest conversations about the profession, she helps dental hygiene students and new professionals build confidence, advocate for themselves, and navigate their careers with greater clarity.
Her goal is simple: to make sure new hygienists don’t have to figure everything out alone.
