Course objectives:
At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:
Understand the Importance of BLS: Recognize the significance of BLS in maintaining life and preventing further harm in emergency situations.
Perform High-Quality CPR: Master the techniques for delivering high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for both adult and pediatric patients.
Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED): Gain proficiency in operating an AED to effectively treat victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
Obstructed Airway- Choking: Understand how to clear an obstructed airway in an adult, child, and infant.
Team Dynamics: Understand the importance of effective communication and teamwork when providing BLS care in a healthcare setting.
Assessment and Certification: Complete written and practical assessments to demonstrate proficiency and earn BLS certification.
About your Instructors:
Paola Diaz joined the dental field 14 years ago. Graduating from Houston Dental Assistant School in 2009, then joining American Red Cross to help certified dental staff in basic life support in 2016, and then graduating from Del Mar College in 2020 as a dental hygienist. As a full-time clinician, Paola has made significant contributions to the opening of a new location with a nonprofit organization. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive medical and dental services to the community in need. Paola takes great satisfaction in helping her patients by educating them about the relationship between oral health and overall well-being. She is a proud mother of two beautiful daughters. Together, they embark on various adventures, creating cherished memories during their quality time together.
Elizabeth Cruz is a highly experienced Dental Hygienist with 14 years of dedicated service in the field. She graduated from Del Mar College in 2009 and strives to make a significant impact on her community.
Committed to patient care and community service, Elizabeth actively supports her local Corpus Christi dental hygiene component and volunteers her expertise at events like Texas Mission of Mercy and non-profit dental clinics. Her drive to give back is evident through her organization of dental and school supply drives benefiting organizations like CASA and the Ark. She is a trustee of the Latin RDH, a nonprofit that empowers the Latin dental community.
In addition to her clinical work, Elizabeth has recently expanded her professional portfolio by becoming an American Red Cross trainer in December 2022.
As the founder of her own dental recruitment and consulting business, Elizabeth aims to support new graduates as they navigate the dental industry and assist those experiencing burnout in finding renewed passion and purpose.
Outside of her profession, Elizabeth cherishes quality time with her family and embraces new experiences through travel.
