Course Description:

This course is designed for dental hygiene students. It was developed to give students an insight into the real world of dental hygiene. It will be inviting to the students to get a taste of what the dental hygiene world really involves on a day-to-day basis.

Course objectives:

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Explain what a dental hygienist is.
  • Recognize self-worth as a dental hygienist and the crucial role it plays in developing your dental hygiene career.
  • Understand how to efficiently learn time management.
  • Describe what a working interview is and how important it is in your job search.
  • Define what ergonomics is and its importance of maintaining it throughout your career.
  • Differentiate dental hygiene insurance codes and know when to implement them.
  • Identify how important it is to network, stay up to date on continuing education and understanding your stated Labor Laws and Practice Acts.
  • About the presenter:

    My name is Jennifer Morelli. I reside in Staten Island, New York. I am a self-motivated, goal and results oriented dental hygienist who practices in a multitude of different practices in NYC and New Jersey. I have an extensive background in the dental industry, with 29 years of clinical dentistry expertise (6 as a dental assistant and 23 as a dental hygienist), coupled with 17 year as an educator with clinical and adjunct faculty instruction experience. With a Master of Science Degree in Health Professions Education, I have made significant academic contributions that include curriculum development, scholarly articles and presentations.

    I currently work in a Prosthodontic office in NYC, and occasionally at 2 general practices one in Staten Island, NY the other in Bridgewater NJ. Simultaneously, I am adjunct faculty in the Department of Dental Hygiene at Middlesex College. In my role as a clinical dental hygienist and educator, I routinely engage in notable community service activities (Give Kids A Smile, Relay For Life, March of Dimes) remain involved in my professional associations, provide curriculum advisement and participate in ongoing continuing education coursework. I have extensive extracurricular activities including invited textbook contributor, course developer, and published author in RDH Magazine and Dentistry IQ.
